Aims

The OSIRYS project aims to improve energy efficiency and indoor environmental air quality. This is being achieved through the development of forest-based biocomposites for façades and interior partitions that can be both retro-fitted into existing buildings and incorporated into new constructions.

Concept

Over the last few decades, indoor air quality and emissions from building materials have been a major challenge for scientists, consumers and the construction industry itself. Contaminants such as VOCs, formaldehyde, particulates and fibres are all by-products of traditional building materials.

OSIRYS partners can use these new eco-innovative, forest-based bio-composite materials to build healthier indoor environments. These cleaner interiors will help reduce the construction industry’s current emissions crises.

Development

A practical solution for façades and interior partitions will be developed that will prove invaluable in a huge range of real life applications – all the while satisfying the strictest building code requisites.

Outcomes

These new materials will improve air quality by eliminating micro-organisms, greatly improving air flow and increasing thermal and acoustic insulation.
