Forest based composites for façades and interior partitions to improve indoor air quality in new builds and restoration

Fraunhofer Institute for Interfacial Engineering and Biotechnology IGB

Fraunhofer is Europe’s largest application-oriented research organization. The Fraunhofer Institute for Interfacial Engineering and Biotechnology IGB is one of 60 Fraunhofer institutes in Germany and offers R&D solutions in the fields of medicine, pharmacy, chemistry, the environment and energy. Its competences comprise Interfacial Engineering and Materials Science, Molecular Biotechnology, Physical Process Technology, Environmental Biotechnology and Bioprocess Engineering, as well as Tissue Engineering. In this project the competences in interfacial engineering, materials science, interfacial biology and analytics will be incorporated. We have extensive experience in innovative surface treatment and preparation of functional coatings on technical and natural materials as well as in manufacturing and handling of particles on the micro- and nanometre scale. Beside this Fraunhofer IGB has an excellent expertise in microbiological characterization of technical samples and is equipped with a wide range of instruments for chemical analysis of surfaces and gases.

Role in the project

Fraunhofer will actively participate in developing eco-innovative materials (WP4), particularly in the development of indoor multifunctional coatings to eliminate VOC and mould.
