Teknologian Tutkimuskeskus VTT
VTT, the Technical Research Centre of Finland (Teknologian tutkimuskeskus VTT), is a government organisation established by law and operating under the auspices of the Ministry of Employment and the Economy. The Research Centre is impartial non-profit expert organisation acting independently in respect of its customers. The objectives of VTT are to create high level scientific and techno-economic knowledge and know-how and to generate technology and innovations for industry and society. In 2011, VTT’s turnover was 280 million €, with personnel of 2800. VTT receives third of its total income directly from the Finnish government. VTT is the largest public multitechnological applied research organisation in Finland and Northern Europe. VTT’s technological focus areas are applied materials; bio and chemical processes; energy; information and communication technologies; industrial systems; microtechnologies and electronics; and services and the built environment. VTT is transdisciplinary in its overall approach to research and development. VTT has a vast experience of two decades working in various EU projects as a partner and as a coordinator. In 2011 alone, VTT was involved in 322 EU funded research projects.
VTT’s role is to develop foamed structures in WP4. VTT has also role in prototype production and analyse (WP5 and 7) and simulation of structural behaviour in cold environment (WP6). The proposed research covers the area of thermoplastic extrusion foaming process and material development for facades and interior partitions.And also development of fibre reinforcement and insulation materials by foam forming and fibre based composites by impregnation technology for interior partitions. In process chemistry field VTT has extensive experience in processing and natural materials research, for instance on bioplastics. This research includes the materials development as well as the development of the process equipment, particularly the conical extrusion equipment for wood plastic composite. In fibre processing field VTT has long experience in developing fibre webs utilized in many applications. This research has included development of materials, processes and process equipment. In building field the research focuses on integrated building and space solutions providing excellent indoor environment, energy efficiency and life cycle advantage. The research in VTT is focused on developing innovative material and process solutions combining experimental facilities, versatile simulation, calculation, and visualisation capabilities. Research facilities from laboratory scale to pilot scale can be utilized in experimental research.
